I liked this video about a girl who set-out to thank everyone involved in saving her son's life.
Gratitude can help us to emerge triumphantly (or at least slowly and steadily at first, and ultimately triumphantly) from grief and pain.
Teach your children about gratitude. They might thank you. : )
